New College is Growing And So Are We
As student enrollment climbs from 650 to 800, New College Foundation intends to increase its endowment from $30 million to $100 million within the next 10 years. This vigorous commitment will ensure that the college can continue to offer a private honors college experience at public university costs.
In addition to enhancing New College's distinctive learning experience with its low 11:1 student/faculty ratio, private funds raised by the foundation support scholarships, faculty development, endowed chairs, student research and a variety of capital improvements on campus.
Since 1980, the foundation has brought more than $100 million to campus through private donations, grants, state matching funds, and state capital improvement funds. These monies have been used for academic program support, land acquisitions and new construction including:
- Jane Bancroft Cook Library ($7 million)
- The Harry Sudakoff Conference Center ($843,000)
- Sculpture Studio ($350,000)
- Mildred Sainer Music and Arts Pavilion ($600,000)
- Lota Mundy Music Building ($700,000)
- Dort Residence Hall ($2.4 million)
- Goldstein Residence Hall ($2.2 million)
- PepsiCo Fine Arts Arcade and Forum ($100,000)
- William G. and Marie Selby Foundation science wings of the R.V. Heiser Natural Sciences Complex ($100,000 for custom-built equipment in the chemistry labs)
- Soo Bong Chae Teaching Auditorium ($218,000)
- Pritzker Marine Biology Research Center ($2.5 million)
- The Keating Center ($1,200,000).
Immediate building needs include 200+ beds in new residence halls; a new classroom and faculty office building; and an Environmental Studies field research station, a joint effort of New College of Florida and Sarasota County Government.
